About the Lotus Elan

The Elan Sprint was the final and most powerful iteration of the original Elan, featuring the 'Big Valve' version of the Lotus-Ford Twin Cam engine. It utilised a lightweight fibreglass body over a steel backbone chassis, embodying Colin Chapman's philosophy of 'simplify, then add lightness'. The Sprint is distinguished by its iconic two-tone Gold Leaf tobacco-inspired livery and improved performance that allowed it to out-accelerate many contemporary V8s. It remains a benchmark for steering feel and handling balance among classic sports cars.
