About the Vauxhall VX220

Born from a collaboration between General Motors and Lotus, the VX220 was built at the Hethel factory alongside the Series 2 Elise. While it shares the Elise's bonded aluminium tub, the VX220 features a longer wheelbase, wider track, and distinctively sharp, wedge-like bodywork. The 2.2-litre Ecotec engine provides a more flexible, torque-rich delivery than the contemporary Lotus, though the car remains a focused, analogue driver's machine. Despite critical acclaim, it struggled with badge snobbery when new, making it a rare and increasingly appreciated modern classic today.
