About the Lamborghini Gallardo

The LP 560-4 represents the significant 2008 facelift of the Gallardo, introducing a new 5.2-litre 'Iniezione Diretta Stratificata' V10 engine. This update addressed the original car's understeer with a revised 30/70 torque split and improved the E-gear transmission's shift speeds by 40%. Its design, influenced by the limited-run Reventón, features more aggressive 'nostril' intakes and a cleaner rear profile. As the most successful model in Lamborghini's history at the time, it balanced daily usability with a raw, high-revving soundtrack that remains a benchmark for the V10 era.

Lamborghini Gallardo fun facts

  • The 'LP' in the name stands for 'Longitudinale Posteriore', referring to the engine's longitudinal mid-mounted orientation.
  • The LP 560-4 was 20kg lighter than the original Gallardo despite having a larger and more complex engine.
  • Its V10 engine uses an uneven firing order, which gives the facelifted models a distinctively more mechanical and aggressive exhaust note compared to the early 5.0-litre cars.
