About the Jaguar X-Type
The Jaguar X-Type was developed under Ford ownership to compete with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Based on a modified Ford Mondeo platform, it was the first Jaguar to feature a diesel engine and front-wheel drive, though higher-spec petrol models retained all-wheel drive. The 2.0d SE trim offered a balance of traditional Jaguar luxury, including leather and wood veneers, with the economy of a Ford-sourced Duratorq engine. While often criticised for its Ford underpinnings, it remains Jaguar's highest-selling model by total volume.
