About the Jaguar Mark IV
The Jaguar Mark IV is a retrospective designation for the range of saloons and drophead coupés that relaunched the brand after World War II. Mechanically derived from the pre-war SS Jaguar models, the 3.5 Litre variant was the flagship of the range, offering a significant power advantage over the smaller four-cylinder versions. It features a separate chassis with semi-elliptic leaf springs and a luxurious interior finished in polished walnut and Connolly leather. While its rod-operated mechanical brakes and beam-axle suspension reflect its 1930s origins, the car's stately presence and 90-mph capability established Jaguar's reputation for 'Grace, Space, and Pace' in the crucial post-war export markets.

- Early post-war examples occasionally used surplus aircraft-grade aluminium for body panels due to the severe shortage of steel in Britain.
