About the Honda Avancier
The first-generation Honda Avancier was a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) exclusive designed to bridge the gap between a traditional station wagon and a minivan. Based on the sixth-generation Accord platform, it featured a longer wheelbase and a taller roofline to maximise interior volume, specifically for rear-seat passengers. The 2.3-litre F23A VTEC engine provided adequate power, though the car was marketed more for its 'limousine-like' cabin, which included a flat floor and a dashboard-mounted gear shifter to allow walk-through access between the front seats. Despite its innovative packaging and high equipment levels, it remained a niche product and was eventually succeeded by the Honda Odyssey and the later Crosstour.
