About the Ginetta G32

The Ginetta G32 was the company's first move into volume production, designed as a mid-engined rival to the Toyota MR2 and Pontiac Fiero. It utilised a galvanised steel chassis with a glass-fibre body and drew heavily from the Ford parts bin, including the 1.6-litre CVH engine and gearbox from the Fiesta XR2i. Despite its kit-car origins, the G32 was sold as a fully built car and was praised for its exceptional handling and communicative steering. Production was limited by Ginetta's financial difficulties, making it a rare sight on modern roads.

Ginetta G32 fun facts

  • The G32 used the doors, windscreen, and dashboard from the Ford Fiesta MkV, which helped Ginetta achieve Type Approval.
  • Though roughly 115 coupes were built, a tiny number of convertible variants were also produced before the company was sold in 1992.
  • The engine was turned 180 degrees compared to its position in the Fiesta to create the mid-engined layout.
