About the Reliant Scimitar SE4
The Reliant Scimitar GT (SE4) was born from the Ogle SX250, a design originally intended for a Daimler chassis but purchased by Reliant to replace the ageing Sabre. Launched at the 1964 Earls Court Motor Show, it featured a lightweight glass-fibre body over a steel box-section chassis, providing a rust-proof alternative to contemporary sports cars. The early SE4 models are distinguished by their Ford-sourced 2.6-litre straight-six engine equipped with triple SU carburettors, offering smooth power and a respectable 117 mph top speed. While the later GTE shooting brake became more famous, the original GT is a rare and sophisticated 2+2 that established Reliant's reputation for high-performance grand tourers.

Reliant Scimitar SE4 fun facts
- The Scimitar GT's design was so tight that unfolding the sun visor would often knock the rear-view mirror out of adjustment.
- Only 296 examples of the straight-six SE4 were produced before Reliant switched to the Ford Essex V6 engine in 1966.
- The car's styling was originally a one-off commission for Boris Forter, the managing director of Helena Rubinstein cosmetics.
