About the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
Introduced in 1965, the Giulia Sprint GTA (Alleggerita) was a homologation special developed by Alfa Romeo's racing arm, Autodelta. To achieve a weight reduction of over 200kg compared to the standard GT, it featured 'Peraluman 25' aluminium body panels, magnesium alloy wheels, and a stripped-out interior. The 1.6-litre engine was significantly upgraded with a twin-plug cylinder head and larger Weber carburettors, providing a sharp, high-revving character. It became a dominant force in touring car racing, securing multiple European championships and cementing its status as one of the most desirable driver's cars of the 1960s.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA fun facts
- The 'A' in GTA stands for 'Alleggerita', the Italian word for lightened, reflecting its extensive use of aluminium and magnesium.
- The GTA's body panels were pop-riveted to the steel inner structure rather than welded to save weight and simplify repairs.
- Only 50 of the original 500 GTA 1600 units were produced in right-hand drive, making them exceptionally rare today.
