About the Ford Maverick Mk2
The second-generation European Ford Maverick was a badge-engineered version of the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute, designed to offer a more car-like driving experience than its Nissan-based predecessor. While the 3.0-litre V6 was the flagship, the 2.0-litre 16V served as the entry-level model, paired exclusively with a manual gearbox. It featured a Control Trac II four-wheel-drive system that could automatically direct torque to the rear wheels when slip was detected. Despite its American branding, the model struggled to compete in the UK against established rivals like the Land Rover Freelander and was eventually replaced by the Kuga.
