About the Chery Tiggo
Launched at the 2005 Shanghai Motor Show, the Chery Tiggo (T11) is historically significant as one of the first Chinese-developed SUVs to achieve widespread international export. Its design drew immediate controversy for its striking resemblance to the second-generation Toyota RAV4, a factor that helped it gain quick recognition in emerging markets. Powered by a Mitsubishi-sourced 4G63 engine, it offered a basic but functional all-wheel-drive system and a high level of standard equipment for its price point. While it lacked the refinement of its Japanese inspirations, the Tiggo established Chery as a serious global player and laid the foundation for the brand's successful Tiggo series of crossovers.
