About the Ford Galaxy Mk1
The first-generation Ford Galaxy was the product of the 'AutoEuropa' joint venture between Ford and the Volkswagen Group, sharing its platform and body with the VW Sharan and SEAT Alhambra. While the V6 and diesel engines were sourced from Volkswagen, the 2.3-litre unit was a Ford-designed DOHC engine intended to provide a balance of refinement and torque for family duties. The Ghia trim sat at the top of the range, offering a more car-like interior with captain's chairs and wood-effect trim. Though often overlooked today, the Mk1 Galaxy was a significant success in Europe, effectively establishing the large MPV segment for Ford before they moved to an independent platform for the second generation.
