About the Ford Eifel
Introduced in 1935, the Ford Eifel was a German-developed evolution of the British Model C platform, named after the Eifel mountain range. It was a critical success for Ford-Werke GmbH, helping the company climb to fourth place in German passenger car sales by 1938. While the chassis and 1172cc side-valve engine were shared with its Dagenham-built cousins, the Eifel featured distinct German styling and a vast array of body styles from coachbuilders like Ambi-Budd and Karmann. Its robust mechanicals and relatively modern aesthetics for the mid-1930s made it a popular choice until production was halted by the onset of World War II.

Ford Eifel fun facts
- The Eifel was so popular that it accounted for more than half of the total output of Ford's Cologne factory between 1933 and 1942.
- Early models featured wire-spoke wheels, but a 1937 facelift introduced modern pressed-steel wheels and a wrap-around grille inspired by the American Ford V8.
- Though a mass-produced car, at least 15 different coachbuilders provided bespoke bodies for the Eifel, including rare roadsters and cabriolets.
