About the Ford Cortina Mk3
Introduced in late 1973 as part of the Mk3 facelift, the 2000E (Executive) replaced the GXL as the range-topping Cortina. It was designed to recapture the prestige of the earlier Mk2 1600E, featuring a wood-veneer dashboard, deep-pile carpets, and distinctive rectangular headlamps. Underneath the 'Coke-bottle' styling, it used the 2.0-litre SOHC Pinto engine and a revised double-wishbone front suspension that improved on the early Mk3's choppy ride. Today, it is one of the most sought-after non-Lotus Cortinas, prized for its period-correct luxury and robust mechanicals.
