About the Ford 7Y
The Ford 7Y, marketed as the Ford Eight, was a significant evolution of the Model Y, featuring a more modern, streamlined body style that echoed the larger American Fords of the era. Produced at Dagenham, it was powered by a reliable 933cc side-valve engine and was the first small Ford to feature a proper opening boot accessible from the outside. While basic, it provided affordable motoring for the British middle class just before the outbreak of World War II. Its simple mechanicals and transverse leaf spring suspension make it a charming, manageable entry point into pre-war classic car ownership today.
