About the Fiat 520

Introduced in 1927, the Fiat 520 was a significant 'upper middle-class' model that brought six-cylinder refinement to a broader audience. It is historically notable for being one of the first Italian cars to adopt left-hand steering, anticipating the shift toward standardized right-hand traffic laws in Italy. The 2.2-litre straight-six engine was praised for its smoothness, featuring a seven-bearing crankshaft and a torsional vibration damper—advanced features for a car of its class at the time. While it shared its name with the earlier V12 'Superfiat', this 520 was a more rational, modern design that laid the groundwork for Fiat's subsequent executive saloons.
