About the Dodge Polara
The 1964 Dodge Polara represents the final year of the 'downsized' B-body design, which was initially a corporate miscalculation but accidentally created a formidable performance machine. Its relatively light weight compared to rivals from GM and Ford made it a favourite for drag racers, especially when equipped with the 'Big Block' V8 engines. The 1964 model is distinguished by its more conventional, squared-off styling compared to the radical 1962 version, featuring a wide grille and prominent round tail lights. It remains a staple of early Mopar history, bridging the gap between 1950s cruisers and the dedicated muscle cars of the late 1960s.

Dodge Polara fun facts
- The 1964 Polara was the first year Dodge offered the legendary 426 Hemi engine as a race-only option, though most street versions used the 383 cubic-inch V8.
- Dodge downsized the Polara in 1962 because of a misunderstood rumour that Chevrolet was shrinking their full-size cars; this mistake actually gave Dodge a weight advantage in racing.
- The 1964 model year celebrated Dodge's 50th anniversary, often denoted by 'Golden Anniversary' badging on various trim levels.
