About the Buick Wildcat
The 1964 Buick Wildcat represents the pinnacle of the model's first generation as a standalone series, bridging the gap between the entry-level LeSabre and the stately Electra 225. It is defined by its 'Nailhead' V8, so named for its unusually small, vertically mounted valves which, while limiting high-RPM breathing, produced immense low-end torque. For 1964, the Wildcat dropped Buick's signature horizontal VentiPorts in favour of vertical chrome hash-marks on the front wings. While heavy, its stiffened suspension and bucket-seat interior provided a sportier driving experience than contemporary full-size rivals, cementing its reputation as a gentleman's muscle car.

Buick Wildcat fun facts
- The 'Wildcat 445' engine designation actually referred to its torque rating in lb-ft, rather than its displacement.
- 1964 was the first year the Wildcat featured its distinctive vertically oriented chrome 'gills' behind the front wheels instead of traditional portholes.
- Despite its performance image, the most popular body style in 1964 was actually the four-door sedan, which helped double Wildcat sales over the previous year.
