About the Dodge Aries
The Dodge Aries, alongside its Plymouth Reliant twin, was the first of the 'K-cars' that famously rescued Chrysler from bankruptcy in the early 1980s. It introduced a space-efficient front-wheel-drive platform that replaced aging, thirsty rear-wheel-drive models during a period of high fuel prices. The 2.2-litre Trans-4 engine was the mainstay of the range, offering adequate performance for the era's commuting needs. While basic in construction, its success allowed Lee Iacocca to repay government-guaranteed loans seven years early.
