About the DKW Munga
Developed by Auto Union to meet the West German Bundeswehr's need for a light off-road vehicle, the Munga (Mehrzweck Universal Geländewagen mit Allradantrieb) is a rugged 4x4 defined by its unique two-stroke powertrain. Its three-cylinder engine, shared with DKW's passenger cars, provides a distinctive soundtrack and surprising reliability in extreme cold. The vehicle features permanent four-wheel drive and a reduction gear for crawling, making it exceptionally capable off-road despite its modest power. While primarily a military workhorse, its simple mechanicals and 'Tonka toy' aesthetics have earned it a dedicated following among classic off-road collectors.
