About the Daimler Double Six Series III
The Daimler Double Six Series III represents the ultimate evolution of the original XJ platform, featuring a Pininfarina-revised roofline and the legendary 5.3-litre V12. By 1985, the model utilised the 'High Efficiency' (HE) engine, which employed Michael May's 'Fireball' cylinder heads to improve fuel economy and power. While the Jaguar XJ40 arrived in 1986, the Series III V12 remained in production until 1992 because the newer chassis could not initially accommodate the large engine. It is highly prized by collectors for its peerless ride quality, fluted chrome grille, and an interior swathed in burr walnut and Connolly leather.
