About the Daimler Double Six Series II
The Daimler Double Six Series II represents the most opulent expression of the Jaguar XJ platform, distinguished by its signature fluted radiator grille and more luxurious interior appointments. Introduced in 1973, it featured the smooth 5.3-litre V12 engine which, by 1975, had transitioned from carburettors to Lucas-Bosch electronic fuel injection to improve efficiency and performance. While the Series II era was marred by the industrial unrest and build quality issues of the British Leyland years, the Double Six remained a formidable grand tourer, offering a ride quality that rivalled Rolls-Royce. It was the preferred choice for high-ranking officials and royalty, including the Queen Mother, who famously used a Vanden Plas variant.
