About the Daihatsu Tanto L350
Launched in 2003, the L350 Daihatsu Tanto revolutionised the Japanese kei car market by prioritising vertical space over traditional proportions. Built on the Daihatsu Move platform, it featured a 'tall boy' design that maximised interior volume within strict kei dimensions, offering a flat floor and high ceiling. While the 659cc EF-VE engine provided modest performance, the Tanto's utility made it a massive success, eventually leading to the 'Miracle Open Door' in later generations. It remains a popular choice for urban commuters and young families in Japan and as a niche import elsewhere.
