About the Suzuki Kei
Launched in October 1998 to coincide with new Japanese kei car regulations, the Suzuki Kei was a unique 'crossover' concept that blended hatchback dimensions with increased ground clearance. It was designed to offer better visibility and rough-road capability than a standard Alto while remaining more urban-friendly than the Jimny. The 1998 launch models featured the F6A three-cylinder engine, often in turbocharged form to provide adequate pep for its lightweight chassis. Its success led to an 11-year production run and inspired the later Suzuki Hustler, cementing its place as a pioneer of the small crossover segment.
