About the Subaru Stella RN

Launched in 2006, the Subaru Stella (RN) was developed to recapture market share in the competitive Japanese kei car segment following the disappointing sales of the avant-garde R2. Unlike many of its three-cylinder rivals, the Stella utilised Subaru's smooth EN07 four-cylinder engine, paired with a newly developed i-CVT for improved urban drivability. Its tall, boxy 'tall boy' design prioritised interior space and visibility, featuring rear doors that opened to nearly 90 degrees for easy access. While later generations became rebadged Daihatsu models, this first-generation Stella remains a pure Subaru design, noted for its fully independent suspension and refined mechanical layout.
