About the Dacia Pick-Up
The Dacia Pick-Up, affectionately known in Romania as the 'Papuc' (Slipper) due to its distinctive shape, was the final evolution of the Renault 12-based platform. Introduced in 1975, it remained in production for 31 years, outlasting the passenger car variants by two years. The 1.9-litre diesel version, featuring the Renault F8Q engine, was introduced late in the model's life to provide better torque and reliability for commercial use. While basic and unrefined by modern standards, its simplicity and high ground clearance made it an indispensable tool for Romanian farmers and small businesses. It was eventually replaced by the Logan Pick-Up in 2006, marking the end of Dacia's long-standing relationship with the classic Renault 12 design.
