About the Bristol 411

Introduced in 1969, the Bristol 411 marked a significant performance leap for the marque by adopting the Chrysler 'big-block' B-series V8. Hand-built at Filton with an aluminium body over a steel chassis, it combined traditional British craftsmanship with effortless American muscle. Contemporary reviewers, including L.J.K. Setright, praised its ability to carry four adults in absolute comfort at speeds exceeding 140 mph, famously outperforming the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3. Its understated styling and aircraft-inspired engineering made it the choice of a discerning, low-profile clientele.

Bristol 411 fun facts

  • The 411 features a signature Bristol design trait: the spare wheel is hidden in a dedicated compartment inside the front nearside wing, accessible via a hinged panel.
