About the Bristol 400

The 400 was the first motor car produced by the Bristol Aeroplane Company, utilizing engineering designs acquired from BMW as war reparations. It combined the chassis of the BMW 326, the engine of the 328, and a body inspired by the 327, all refined to exacting aircraft-industry standards. The 2.0-litre straight-six engine features a complex overhead valve arrangement with hemispherical combustion chambers, providing smooth and spirited performance for the era. Its steel body on a wooden frame was noted for its aerodynamic efficiency and exceptional build quality, establishing Bristol's reputation for understated luxury.
