About the Fiat 2800

The Fiat 2800 was the final new model released by the Italian marque before the Second World War, designed by Dante Giacosa under pressure from Benito Mussolini to create a prestigious state vehicle. It introduced the 'Musone' (big nose) styling, featuring a prominent raked grille that would influence post-war Fiats. While Giacosa initially proposed a radical rear-engined layout, the conservative board insisted on a traditional front-engine, rear-drive configuration for reliability. The car served as the official transport for the Italian Royal Family, the Pope, and high-ranking government officials, remaining in ceremonial use well into the 1960s.
