About the BMW 2 Series G42
The G42-generation M240i xDrive arrived in 2021 as a significant departure from its predecessor, moving to the larger CLAR platform shared with the 3 and 4 Series. While it gained weight and lost the manual transmission option, it compensated with a sophisticated rear-biased all-wheel-drive system and the acclaimed B58 straight-six engine. The 2022 model year represents the launch of this generation, offering performance that closely rivals the outgoing M2 while maintaining a more refined, daily-drivable character. Its distinctive wide-body stance and controversial styling cues, such as the triangular air intakes, mark it as a unique entry in BMW's modern line-up.
