About the Chevrolet Impala SS 427
The 1968 Chevrolet Impala SS 427 was a high-performance variant of the fourth-generation Impala, distinguished by the Z24 option package. Unlike the standard Super Sport, which could be ordered with smaller engines, the SS 427 was a dedicated performance model featuring a unique 'power bulge' hood and heavy-duty F41 suspension. It offered a choice between the 385 hp L36 and the rare, solid-lifter 425 hp L72 big-block engines. As buyers shifted towards lighter mid-size muscle cars like the Chevelle, the full-size SS 427 became a rare executive express, blending massive torque with a refined, long-wheelbase ride.
