About the Holden Torana GTR XU-1 LC
Developed by Harry Firth and the Holden Dealer Team, the LC GTR XU-1 was a homologation special designed to challenge the V8 dominance of Ford at Bathurst. By pairing a high-compression 186 cubic-inch straight-six with triple Stromberg carburettors in a compact body, Holden created a 'giant-killer' with an exceptional power-to-weight ratio. It featured distinctive aerodynamic aids including a front air dam and a rear 'bobtail' spoiler, marking a departure from traditional heavy-iron muscle cars. While the later LJ model is more famous for Peter Brock's 1972 win, the LC established the Torana as a formidable force in both circuit racing and rallying.

Holden Torana GTR XU-1 LC fun facts
- The XU-1 was so successful that it effectively replaced the V8-powered Monaro GTS 350 as Holden's primary factory-backed racing weapon.
- To save weight for racing, the XU-1 used a smaller battery and tray borrowed from the four-cylinder Torana models.
- The name 'Torana' is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'to fly', fitting for a car that dominated Australian rally stages for years.
