About the Alpine A310
Launched in 1971 with a four-cylinder engine, the Alpine A310 was transformed in 1976 with the addition of the 2.7-litre PRV V6, finally providing the performance to match its dramatic wedge styling. Built on a steel backbone chassis with a lightweight glass-fibre body, it retained Alpine's signature rear-engine layout, offering handling characteristics often compared to the contemporary Porsche 911. The 1978 model year represents the early V6 era, featuring the distinctive four-headlight front end and a four-speed manual gearbox before the transition to five speeds. While never officially sold in the UK, it remains a cult classic for its unique French engineering and successful Group 4 rally heritage.
