About the Alfa Romeo SZ
The Alfa Romeo SZ (Sprint Zagato) was a radical collaboration between Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Zagato, designed to shock the automotive world. Built on the shortened chassis of the Alfa 75 Group A touring car, it features a unique transaxle layout and a de Dion rear axle for exceptional handling, famously capable of pulling 1.1g in corners. Its polarizing 'Il Mostro' (The Monster) styling was achieved using injection-moulded composite panels, a first for a production car. The heart of the SZ is the legendary 3.0-litre 'Busso' V6, tuned by Alfa Corse to deliver a soulful soundtrack and sharp throttle response. Today, it is a highly prized collector's item, celebrated for its uncompromising design and pure, mechanical driving experience.

Alfa Romeo SZ fun facts
- The SZ was the first production car to be designed almost entirely using CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing) technology.
- Despite the Zagato name, the car's exterior was primarily designed by Robert Opron of the Fiat Centro Stile, with Zagato handling the final assembly.
- Almost all of the 1,036 units produced were finished in the same colour scheme: Rosso Alfa (red) with a dark grey roof and tan leather interior.
