About the Volvo XC90 Mk1
The Mk1 Volvo XC90 was a landmark vehicle for the Swedish brand, successfully translating its reputation for safety and practicality into the burgeoning SUV market. Built on the P2 platform, it featured a clever seven-seat layout with a sliding middle row and an integrated child booster seat, making it a favourite for families. The D5 diesel engine, particularly in its 185 PS guise, provided the necessary torque for towing and long-distance cruising. While not a dedicated off-roader, its Haldex-based all-wheel-drive system offered reliable all-weather traction, and its car-like handling set it apart from more truck-based rivals of the era.
