About the Volkswagen Type 2 T2
The second-generation Volkswagen Type 2, known as the T2 or 'Bay Window', replaced the original 'Split Screen' in 1967 with a larger body and a single-piece curved windscreen. The 1972 model year is a significant 'crossover' period, featuring the early-style rounded bumpers alongside the newly introduced 1.7-litre Type 4 'pancake' engine and front disc brakes. While it lacks the ultimate investment value of the T1, the T2 offers a more usable driving experience thanks to its improved rear suspension and increased power. It remains a global symbol of the 1970s counterculture movement and a staple of the vintage camper and van community.
