About the Vauxhall Ventora
Launched in 1968, the Vauxhall Ventora was a clever exercise in parts-bin engineering, mating the handsome 'Coke-bottle' body of the FD Victor with the effortless 3.3-litre straight-six from the larger Cresta. Marketed as 'The Lazy Fireball' by advertising legend Murray Walker, it offered a level of refinement and low-end torque that few four-cylinder rivals could match. The Series II (Ventora 2) arrived in late 1969, introducing a revised interior and a more robust three-speed automatic option. While it suffered from pronounced understeer due to the heavy engine, its smooth power delivery and distinctive vinyl-roofed styling made it a popular choice for the 1970s executive car park.

Vauxhall Ventora fun facts
- The name 'Ventora' was coined by Murray Walker, who worked in advertising for Vauxhall before becoming the legendary voice of Formula 1.
- Vauxhall originally intended to call the car the 'Ventura', but changed it to 'Ventora' to avoid a trademark conflict with Pontiac's model of the same name.
- Despite its executive aspirations, the Ventora used a four-bearing engine originally derived from a Bedford truck unit, prioritising torque over high-revving performance.
