About the Vauxhall Combo D
The fourth-generation Vauxhall Combo (Combo D) marked a departure from its Corsa-based predecessors, instead sharing a platform and body with the Fiat Doblò. Built by Tofaş in Turkey, it offered significantly improved load volumes and a class-leading payload capacity of up to 1,000kg. The 1.3-litre CDTi engine, a Fiat-sourced MultiJet unit, was the entry-level diesel choice, favoured by urban operators for its fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. While it lacks the refinement of modern passenger-car-based vans, its bi-link independent rear suspension provides a surprisingly composed ride when laden.
