About the Vauxhall Carlton Mk1
Launched in 1978 to replace the ageing Victor, the Mk1 Vauxhall Carlton was a British-built version of the Opel Rekord E. It featured a distinctive 'droop-snoot' front end, a design language shared with the smaller Chevette and Cavalier of the era. The 2.0-litre cam-in-head engine provided respectable performance for the late seventies, while the interior was noted for its generous equipment levels and comfort. Today, the Mk1 Carlton is a rare sight on UK roads, having been largely overshadowed by its more famous Mk2 Lotus-tuned successor.
