About the Triumph Herald

Introduced in 1967, the 13/60 was the ultimate iteration of the Triumph Herald, featuring the 1296cc engine from the Triumph 1300 and a restyled front end reminiscent of the Vitesse. It retained the model's signature separate chassis construction and a remarkably tight turning circle of just 25 feet, making it exceptionally manoeuvrable. While the swing-axle rear suspension could be unpredictable at the limit, the 13/60 offered improved interior comfort and front disc brakes as standard. Its ease of maintenance and excellent parts availability ensure it remains a popular entry-point into classic British car ownership.

Triumph Herald fun facts

  • The Herald's entire front end—bonnet and wings—hinges forward, providing unparalleled access to the engine and front suspension for maintenance.
  • Italian stylist Giovanni Michelotti designed the Herald in just one day after Triumph's in-house team failed to produce a compelling design.
  • Because it used a separate chassis rather than a monocoque, Triumph could offer saloon, coupe, convertible, estate, and van versions with minimal structural changes.
