About the Fiat 1300

Launched in 1961, the Fiat 1300 (and its 1500 sibling) represented a significant leap forward for the brand, featuring a modern 'Corvair-inspired' quad-headlight design by Mario Boano. It was technically advanced for its class, debuting with front disc brakes as standard and a sophisticated OHV engine derived from Fiat's larger six-cylinder units. The 1300 offered a balanced driving experience with a column-mounted four-speed synchromesh gearbox and a lightweight body that made it surprisingly agile. While mass-produced, surviving examples are now rare, especially in the UK, and are prized for their quintessentially 1960s Italian character and robust mechanicals.
