About the Fiat 124

Launched at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, the Fiat 124 was a modern 'clean-sheet' design that replaced the ageing 1300 series. It was technically advanced for its class, featuring four-wheel disc brakes and a coil-sprung rear axle, which helped it secure the 1967 European Car of the Year award. While the boxy styling was conservative, the lightweight construction and zesty OHV engine provided surprisingly spirited performance. Its robust platform was so successful it became the basis for the Lada Zhiguli, eventually becoming one of the most produced automotive designs in history.
