About the Triumph 2000 Mk1
Launched at the 1963 London Motor Show, the Triumph 2000 was a sophisticated response to the growing executive market, arriving just one week after its arch-rival, the Rover P6. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, it featured a smooth 2.0-litre straight-six engine derived from the Standard Vanguard, paired with a modern monocoque chassis and all-independent suspension. While the Rover was more radical in its engineering, the Triumph was often praised for its superior interior refinement and smooth power delivery. Today, the Mk1 is prized by collectors for its clean, continental styling and its role in establishing the 'big Triumph' lineage that lasted until 1977.
