About the Toyota Sequoia XK80
The third-generation Sequoia (XK80) marked a radical departure for Toyota's largest SUV, replacing the long-running V8 with a standard i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. Built on the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform shared with the Tundra and Land Cruiser 300, it returned to a solid rear axle design to prioritise towing capacity, which reached a class-leading 9,520 lbs. The hybrid system integrates an electric motor between the 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 and the 10-speed transmission, providing immediate torque that masks the vehicle's significant mass. While its interior gained a massive 14-inch touchscreen and premium materials, the hybrid battery placement necessitated a non-flat folding third row, a unique compromise in its segment.
