About the Ford Explorer U625
The sixth-generation Ford Explorer (U625) marked the model's return to Europe, offered exclusively as a high-output plug-in hybrid to meet local emissions standards. Built on the rear-wheel-drive-based CD6 platform, it combines a twin-turbocharged V6 with a 100 PS electric motor to deliver performance figures that rival genuine sports cars. Despite its massive footprint and seven-seat practicality, the PHEV system allows for a modest electric-only range of approximately 26 miles. It was eventually succeeded in the European market by a smaller, unrelated all-electric Explorer based on Volkswagen's MEB architecture.
