About the Mercedes-Benz G 500 4x4² W463
The G 500 4x4 Squared is a radical evolution of the W463 G-Class, inheriting the portal axle technology and massive track width of the limited-run G 63 6x6. With 450mm of ground clearance and a fording depth of one metre, it was designed to be the ultimate factory-built off-roader. It features a unique dual-strut suspension system at each corner with adjustable damping, allowing it to handle surprisingly well on-road despite its high centre of gravity. The 4.0-litre 'Hot V' biturbo engine provides ample torque, while carbon-fibre wheel arches and a roof-mounted LED light bar define its aggressive, unmistakable silhouette.

Mercedes-Benz G 500 4x4² W463 fun facts
- The portal axles allow the axle tubes to sit much higher than the wheel centres, providing nearly double the ground clearance of a standard G-Wagon.
- It features two springs and two dampers per wheel, with one damper electronically adjustable between Sport and Comfort modes.
- The track is so wide (nearly 30cm broader than standard) that it requires massive bolt-on carbon-fibre wheel arch extensions to cover the 22-inch wheels.
