About the Toyota Celica T160
The T160 generation Celica represented a radical departure for Toyota, switching from the traditional rear-wheel drive layout to a front-wheel drive platform shared with the Corona. The 2.0 GT trim features the 3S-GE engine, developed in collaboration with Yamaha, providing a high-revving character that suited its sharp, 'aerocube' styling. While the front-wheel drive setup initially polarised fans, the T160 proved its worth through improved interior packaging and predictable handling. This generation also served as the basis for Toyota's first serious WRC contender, the turbocharged, all-wheel drive GT-Four.
