About the Porsche 944 Early
Introduced in 1982 to replace the 924, the 944 was a critical success that combined a Porsche-designed engine with a perfectly balanced transaxle chassis. Its 2.5-litre four-cylinder was effectively half of the 928's V8, featuring twin counter-rotating balance shafts to ensure smoothness. The 'Early' cars are distinguished by their classic yellow-on-black VDO gauges and a more basic interior before the 1985 facelift. Renowned for its near 50:50 weight distribution and communicative steering, it remains a benchmark for handling in the affordable classic market.

- The flared wheel arches were inspired by the 924 Carrera GT, giving the 944 a much more aggressive stance than its predecessor.
