About the Toyota 86 ZN6
The Toyota GT86, co-developed with Subaru, was a deliberate return to basics in an era of increasingly heavy and complex performance cars. Its 2.0-litre 'boxer' engine is mounted low and far back to achieve a near-perfect centre of gravity, prioritising handling balance over outright speed. The 2017 facelift introduced LED lighting, a revised intake system for smoother torque delivery, and a smaller steering wheel to enhance its already sharp steering response. It remains a benchmark for affordable, driver-focused dynamics, famously designed to be fun even at legal speeds.

Toyota 86 ZN6 fun facts
- The car's development code, engine bore and stroke, and even the diameter of its exhaust tips are all exactly 86mm.
- Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada insisted the car be fitted with the same low-grip tyres as the Toyota Prius to ensure it was easy to slide at low speeds.
- The GT86's 'T' mesh pattern in the grille and interior is a subtle nod to the Toyota 2000GT, which inspired its side profile.
