About the Toyota 1000 KP30
The Toyota 1000, known domestically in Japan as the Publica (KP30), was Toyota's entry-level offering designed to meet the 'national car' concept for affordable motoring. Exported to Europe and other markets during the 1970s oil crisis, it gained a reputation for exceptional fuel economy and mechanical simplicity. It features a downsized Corolla platform and the robust water-cooled 2K engine, providing a lightweight and engaging, if basic, driving experience. Today, it is a rare sight in the UK, with very few survivors remaining, making it a sought-after piece of early JDM history.
